Skeleton Key

The Grammy Award winning Skeleton key led by Erik Sanko has been and still is one of my favorite bands for it’s heavy-bottom bass, teenage-going-on-forty angst and semi-hillbilly noise. Tho I think this band is still performing in the states with a widely available back catalog, their website is rather sparse for updates. Their last album was an EP released in 2006 and as of this writing they have become an unsigned (indie) act.

Weird Crime Theater

banner1
The culmination of 8 years of crude illustrations and dirty jokes. Yes, I bring you my latest web-comic effort borne from the minds of myself and my writing partner, Kumar Sivasubramanian. WEIRD CRIME THEATER! Is the adventures of a down and out black ops agent, Granny, and his broadsword wielding, teenage, barbarian partner, Melissa.

The comic will be posted over the next year, 2 pages a week, every Tuesday and Friday. We will also be blogging our influences and thoughts on the project several times a week. So be sure to check back often.
Here’s a sample of the comic:

No number 1

No 1

A few months ago I sent in two comics I had been working at off and on for near 2 years for review. Although, I’m not too keen on contests, it was suggested to me by an editor at Kodansha that I might have a shot at getting my comics published if I entered their International Comic Competition. According to that editor, I was sure to place if the other entries were anything like the previous year’s.

Well, it appears they weren’t and no, I didn’t place. The comics of mine that didn’t make it were Mindgator and Elbis. And although I’m not going to put the comics I sent in on this site you can at least read part of Elbis HERE.

So what do I do now? My comics aren’t bad and I don’t think they need to be shelved or rewritten or redrawn. I’m not sure why they didn’t select my comics but I think every win or rejection is a 50/50 proposition. I just have to find a publisher who’s willing to come half way.

I’ll be hitting up another half dozen or so publishers in Japan and another 10 in Europe and we’ll see but it looks like it will take just a bit longer before Elbis and Mindgator get some sun.

The picture above is 99 “No’s” with one “Yes” “And that”, as my friends tell me, “is what it takes to get where you’re going.” This has been “NO” number 1.

skull

This is based on a sketch I did at least a year ago. I’ve been kind of aching to draw a proper skull for a while now. So, for no particular reason or occasion. Without sorrow or foreboding, I give you my skull.
